Many people, at the start of a new year, who make resolutions to try and make themselves, and their lives better, discover that within days, if not hours, these resolutions have been broken and they are back to square one. Nothing has altered and the resolution goes on the following year's list.
Maybe you are one these people who this year wanted a new start, but have already broken the resolutions you have made. This message can help you know all is not lost, and will help you make a new start in life - a new start with God
Stop making excuses - Many people will give a variety of excuses as to why they have broken their New Year's resolution, and often blame others, or circumstances in the process. They very rarely see that they themselves are to blame. The Bible also states that, "…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23, New King James Version) You have to face the situation head on and recognise that there is a problem called sin that you need help from God with which to overcome it.
Take an inventory of your life - You have recognised that there is a problem, what has caused that problem? The Bible says, "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me." (Psalm 51:5, New International Version). Yes, you can go back right to the start of your life, and discover that you have always had the problem. No wonder year after year, resolutions are broken.
Act in faith - You need the problem of sin solved. The Bible says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31, New King James Version). What did Jesus Christ do? The Bible says, "For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:6-8, New King James Version)
Refocus your thoughts - The Bible records that Paul wrote to the Philippians with the following words, "…one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead." (Philippians 3:13, New King James Version) Here Paul is saying that God wants you to focus on the future, not the past because the past has been dealt with when Christ died on Cross.
Trust God - Only God can give you a new start in your life. It is much more than making a New Year's resolution or turning over a new leaf, because this new start is more of a new beginning. Are you going to accept the new start given by God today, trusting Him. The Bible says, "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2, New King James Version)
